The scheme is part of the Lions' clubs "Opportunities for Youth" initiative.  The Lions YLiS award recognises young people between the ages of 11-18 years old for their service to the community within a 12-month period.  The young person is provided with a 'log book' in which to record their service activities. These need to 'signed off' by a responsible adult, who can be a teacher, youth leader, parent or someone similarly responsible.

The activities are in a number of different categories all the hours can be from the same activity or from a variety of services. Categories include service to the young, helping at school clubs, or Brownies; Rainbows, or cubs and beavers; helping the elderly, family members or the homeless and hungry. It could also include protecting our environment.  Young people may also wish to assist our local Lions club in fundraising or welfare activities. All these activities count as hours towards their award.
